BEYOND NEWCASTLE
Beyond Newcastle is a trail running event on 24 April 2027 that starts on Newcastle Quayside and uses a mixture of river paths, tracks and woodland trails. The event offers two distances:
- 55 km Ultra
- 25 km Trail run
Both routes start beneath the Swing Bridge on the Quayside, are fully signed and supported, and have marshals and feed stations along the course. The 55 km route follows the River Tyne to Wylam, returns via Derwenthaugh Marina, then follows the River Derwent through High Spen, Chopwell Woods and Lintzford before dropping into the Derwent Valley and rejoining the River Tyne for the final riverside approach back to the Swing Bridge finish on the Newcastle side.
There are three well stocked feed stations on the 55 km route, located at approximately 10, 20 and 26 miles, and one well stocked feed station on the 25 km route at about 8 miles. Live chip timing will be used. All finishers receive an event medal, Beyond merchandise and a snack and drink.
Runners are expected to carry basic kit such as a running backpack or vest, fluids, a charged mobile phone with emergency contacts, some food or gels and a lightweight jacket. The event has a cut off at 18:30 and runners not at the final feed station on the Derwent Walk by 16:00 will not be allowed to continue for safety reasons.
