About the race
The BB-Charnwood Marathon is a point-to-point and looped event around the Charnwood area, starting and finishing at Brush Bowls & Sports Club in Loughborough (Nanpantan Road Sports Ground, Watermead Lane, LE11 3TN). The routes pass through the Outwoods, Blackbrook Reservoir, Mount St Bernard Abbey, Bardon Hill and Copt Oak.
Two main course options are offered, with distinct route variations:
- Adult Long : 27 miles
- Adult Short : 18 miles
- Under 18 on Long : 27 miles
- Under 18 on Short : 18 miles
The short route includes a loop to Beacon Hill and returns through the Outwoods. The long route continues via Newtown Linford into Bradgate Park, passes Cropston village (checkpoint at Bradgate Arms carpark), and then proceeds through Bradgate Park, Swithland Woods and Woodhouse Eaves before returning through the Outwoods to the club.
The event uses checkpoint controls; entrants must check in at all checkpoints. There is an overall time limit and checkpoint cut-offs; late arrivals may be retired or diverted to the short route. Entry includes snacks and drinks at checkpoints and a hot meal at the finish. Certificates are provided to finishers.
Required equipment includes suitable clothing and footwear, waterproofs, compass, whistle, torch, basic first aid, a mug and specified OS maps. Electronic maps and route descriptions are permitted.
