Two Tunnels Railway Races
The Two Tunnels Railway Races take place in and around Bath with a city centre start and finish at Brickfields Park, BA2 1LX. The route uses the Two Tunnels shared use path, including the Devonshire Tunnel (408 m) and Combe Down Tunnel (1672 m), both well lit and surfaced.
Distances and formats include:
- Colourburst and short fun runs
- 5 km
- 10 km (two route options)
- Half Marathon (multiple routes)
- Marathon
- 50 km solo and pair options
- 5 x 10 km relay
The 5 km, Return Ticket 10 km, Return Ticket Half Marathon and 50 km are officially measured by UK Athletics; the marathon is not officially measured. There is a 3 hour cut off to start lap two of the marathon and an 8.5 hour cut off for the 50 km. Other distances have no formal cut offs but pure walkers are not eligible.
Course surfaces vary by ticket: Return Ticket routes are almost entirely tarmac, Hilly Ticket routes include woodland trail and stone paths, and City Ticket routes mix tarmac, canal towpath and river path. Drink and food stations vary by distance; for example there is no drinks station on the 5 km, one on the 10 km and nine on the marathon and 50 km. Runners of 5 km and longer receive a two sided 10 cm medal. Facilities at Brickfields Park include toilets, food and coffee vans and a bag drop. Odd Down Park and Ride is the recommended car park; Oldfield Park and Bath Spa are the nearest train stations. The event donates £1 per runner to Sustrans and has raised over £30,000 to date.
