Barr Trail Mountain Race

The Barr Trail Mountain Race is a summer mountain running event on the Front Range held on the Barr Trail of Pikes Peak. The point-to-point course covers 12.6 miles, beginning at the Cog Railway Station in Manitou Springs at about 6,570 ft, ascending to Barr Camp at about 10,200 ft, then reversing direction to descend and finish at the Barr Trailhead. The event is operated under a special use permit from the Pike National Forest.

The race began in 2000 and in 2026 marked its 25th running. It is part of the Garden to Peak Challenge, a series that also includes the Garden of the Gods 10 Mile Run and either the Pikes Peak Ascent or the Pikes Peak Marathon; runners who complete the three races within the series cut off times are recognized as Challenge participants and eligible for awards and recognition.

Race operations note that the event is cup less, so participants must carry their own refillable cup or reservoir for on-course hydration. Registration has structured fee tiers by date, a competitive entry option exists for athletes likely to place in the top five overall, and some aid station sponsor slots direct 100 percent of the entry fee to a High School Aid Station Challenge distributed to local high school cross country teams. There is no waiting list, no deferrals, and no refunds. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
