Balgowan Trail Run
Balgowan Trail Run is scheduled for Sunday, 01 November 2026 at Michaelhouse, R103, Balgowan. The event is hosted by the Balgowan Conservancy in partnership with Michaelhouse and KZNTR and uses loop courses within the Michaelhouse reserve.
The route runs through indigenous grasslands and NCT plantations. Along the way participants may encounter oribi, a variety of birdlife, and the reserve’s Nguni cattle. The course includes a steady climb to a hilltop viewpoint with views across the Midlands, including Midmar Dam, iNhlosane and, on a clear day, Giant’s Castle.
Available loop distances include:
- 21 km - 640 m elevation, 3 aid stations
- 11 km - 297 m elevation, 2 aid stations
- 6 km - 188 m elevation, 1 aid station
GPX files are available for each course. There is no compulsory kit requirement for the races. Courses are subject to change. The event combines trail running with conservation and local community involvement and is based at the Michaelhouse venue in the Balgowan Valley.
