Badger Challenge
Badger Challenge is a six hour trail event at Beacon Hill Country Park, LE12 8TA, starting and finishing at the Lower Car Park. The course is a clearly marked, off-road loop of about 3.3 miles. The first half of each lap climbs on well maintained crushed stone paths toward the high point of the park; the second half descends back to the start. The trig point sits near the top but is not on the route.
Participants choose how many laps to complete within the six hour time limit. Examples given by the organiser: a half marathon requires four laps and a marathon requires eight laps. The format allows short or long efforts, from a single lap to more than 50 miles depending on how many laps are completed.
Underfoot is generally decent but can be muddy depending on weather; the route is described as tough but not technical. Canicross is permitted with short leads and consideration for other runners. Rucking is allowed. A GPX of the route is available for download, though the course may be subject to last minute changes and will be well marked on the day.
Parking is charged on site, with day rates between £2.50 and £5.50 payable by card or coin. Entry pricing follows a tiered structure and unaffiliated entrants pay a small additional fee. Participants may receive a medal or an eco token that supports tree planting and wildflower seed distribution. The event has run at Beacon Hill since 2022.
