Bad Ass Backyard Ultra - Rio Linda, CA

Bad Ass Backyard Ultra is a backyard ultra held at Dry Creek Parkway, north of Sacramento in Rio Linda, California. The event uses the traditional backyard ultra format: runners have one hour to complete each loop and a new loop begins every hour on the hour. Each loop is counted only if completed within the hour.

The loop length is 4.16 miles with about 30 feet of elevation gain per loop. Warnings are given 3, 2, and 1 minute(s) before each start. All participants must be in the starting corral at the bell; there are no late starts. Competitors may not leave the course except for restrooms until each loop is finished. Non-participants are not allowed on the course, and eliminated runners may not reenter. No assistance or aid is allowed after the bell until the yard is completed. Artificial aids, including trekking poles, are not permitted. Slower runners must allow passing.

The winner is the last person to complete a loop; if no runner completes one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner. The event is an affiliated Backyard event, with eligibility for national team consideration at Satellite Team Championships and for the World Individual Championships at Bigs Backyard in Tennessee. The event began in 2023 and is produced by Skybreaker Racing. Registered runners may order event swag; the winner may receive a special award. Organizers require volunteers to run the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
