Windgather Fell Race
The Windgather Fell Race is an off-road race of approximately 21.5 km (about 13.5 miles), with around 760 m of ascent and descent. The course runs round the tracks and trails of the Goyt Valley and includes an ascent to Shining Tor. The route is marked at junctions but competitors are responsible for navigation; free maps are available online or at race headquarters.
The event uses Burbage Institute in Buxton as its location. The race is almost entirely off road and parts of the course can be muddy, so footwear with good grip is required. Water is provided at two points on the route, and hot food and drinks are available at the finish.
Competitors must carry full Fell Runners Association kit: a waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and an attached hood, hat, gloves, a map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle and basic first aid supplies are strongly recommended.
Entry information includes a pre-entry fee of £14.00 and an on-day entry option at £16.00 if places remain. The event has a minimum age of 18. It is the 20th anniversary edition and a memento is provided to pre-entries. All race proceeds go to Buxton Rotary for charitable causes.
