Windgather Fell Race

The Windgather Fell Race is an approximate half marathon of 21.5 km (13.5 miles) with about 760 m of climb and descent. The route is almost entirely off road and follows tracks and trails around the Goyt Valley, including an ascent to Shining Tor. The course is marked at junctions, but navigation is the responsibility of each runner; maps are available online or at race headquarters.

Pre-entry is required for guaranteed entry; entries open 25 March 2026 and close 9 October 2026. The standard pre-entry fee is £14 and on-day entry may be available for £16 if spaces remain. Entrants must be at least 18 years old on the event date.

Competitors must carry Full Fell Runners Association kit: waterproof whole body cover with taped seams and an integrated hood, hat and gloves, a map of the route, compass, whistle and emergency food. A water bottle and basic first aid kit are strongly recommended. Water is provided at two points on the route, and hot food and drinks are available at the finish.

The race marks its 20th anniversary and pre-entries receive a memento. All race proceeds are donated to Buxton Rotary for local and wider causes. Parts of the course can be muddy, so footwear with good grip is required. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
