This is a trail event that honors Dakota people, land, and traditions along Ȟaȟá Wakpádaŋ (Bassett Creek). Participants may run or walk in timed 6-hour or 12-hour formats, or take part in relay and untimed options.
Event formats include:
- 12-hour individual challenge completing as many 5-mile loops as possible
- 6-hour individual challenge completing as many 5-mile loops as possible
- Relay team format (teams of up to four rotating between loops)
- 1 Loop Fun Run/Walk untimed along the creek
- Kids Little Loopet short loop for children, free with pre-registration
All events start and finish at the Trailhead at Theodore Wirth Park. The main course uses a 5-mile loop with an additional 1-mile loop used later in the day. A full ultramarathon-style aid station highlights Dakota foods; past offerings included soup, cookies, and wild rice blueberry muffins. Trailhead aid also provides an electrolyte beverage, and a self-serve water station is located at mile 3 of the 5-mile loop.
Registration for 2026 opens on January 1, 2026. Registration fees and transaction fees are non-refundable. Proceeds benefit the Loppet Foundation. Event awards include a pumpkin decorated by Little Loopet participants, and registering by October 1 guarantees special event swag featuring artwork by an Anishinaabe artist.
Parking is available at Mortenson Parking Lot (700 Meadow Ln N). Bus route 7 stops at the Trailhead and extra bike racks are provided. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
