About the race
A Shot in the Dark is a trail running event at the Whitewater Center property in Huger, SC, featuring a single course distance of 5K. The event takes place on natural trails that remain open to other runners, hikers, and bikers during the race; participants are asked to communicate when passing other trail users and to note that no e bikes or other powered trail vehicles are permitted.
Participants are required to use a headlamp or another personal light source while on course. Race shirts are guaranteed only to entrants who pre register on or before October 26, 2026. Awards will be presented to the top three male and top three female finishers in the 5K.
Registration options include a pre registration fee of $45 with a last day to pre register of November 5, 2026, and a higher fee for day of registration. Registration is non refundable. All participants must complete the Whitewater Center Assumption of Risk Agreement before participating; the waiver may be printed and brought to packet pick up or completed on site.
Additional event policies note that events are scheduled rain or shine and the Whitewater Center reserves the right to alter, reschedule, or cancel any event. Free onsite parking is available.
