3 Legged Monster Race
The 3 Legged Monster Race is a team relay for two set on the Ozark Trail and nearby waterways in and around Steelville, Missouri. The event comprises three sequential legs: running, mountain biking and paddling, routed through the Mark Twain National Forest and Huzzah Conservation Area. Terrain on the running leg includes rolling hardwood forest, bluff overlooks, mossy rock outcrops and seasonal waterfalls. The mountain bike legs use singletrack and gravel roads through oak and pine stands, including sections of the Berryman Trail and Floyd Tower Road. The paddling leg follows Courtois Creek and Huzzah Creek before merging onto the Meramec River and finishing at a gravel bar near Ozark Outdoors.
Distances by course:
- Short course: Run 7 miles, MTB 11 miles, Paddle 12 miles
- Long course: Run 13 miles, MTB 30 miles, Paddle 12 miles
Support at aid stations includes water and medical assistance, with specific aid locations noted along each leg at mile markers. Paddles are provided by Bass' River Resort and participants should not bring their own. The event uses two start locations: Ozark Outdoors Riverfront Resort for runners and Bass' River Resort for mountain bikers. Limited cell service is expected in the area.
