Two Brothers Up and Down
Two Brothers Up and Down is an uphill out and back race set at Courtney-Riley-Cooper Park in Idaho Springs, CO. The 2027 date is to be determined and registration is pending permit approval. Past results are available for 2026 and 2022.
The courses use a mix of 2wd dirt and paved roads. The dirt sections have loose rocks and ruts and are rough in spots. Overall steepness is notable: the course lists a 12% grade, averages about 11% on the longer climb, and contains sections of 15% to 20%.
Distances:
- 10k with about 1,800 feet of climbing
- 5k with about 570 feet of climbing
Both races start and finish on 23rd on the west side of the park by the river. Runners head north two blocks, turn left onto Virginia, then right up Virginia Canyon where the main climbing begins. The first half mile climbs at about 10 percent before the dirt split.
The 5k turns right onto Virginia Canyon dirt for roughly three quarters of a mile with an average climb near 7 percent, then returns the same way. The 10k stays straight onto Two Brothers Road with sustained steep pitches near 12 percent, an aid station at a junction with Virginia Canyon, and sections above 15 percent before a turnaround near the aid station.
Volunteers are used for registration, finish line and aid stations; volunteers earn a free entry for another race. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
