Wooler Trail Marathon

The Wooler Trail Marathon is a seasonal trail marathon held in the Northumberland National Park on 14/11/2026. The course covers roughly 28 miles with about 6,063 feet of ascent and 6,102 feet of descent, and a maximum field of 300 runners. The overall race cut off is 9.5 hours.

The route is marked with tape and signs and staffed by marshals at key points. Weather and underfoot conditions in November can vary and may include boggy ground, frozen surfaces and snow. Checkpoints provide different levels of support: checkpoints 1, 4 and 5 supply at least water, cola, sweet snacks and fruit; checkpoint 2 holds very limited water and emergency food; checkpoint 3 has no provisions. Hot drinks are available at the Wooler YHA.

Mandatory kit must be carried throughout the event and includes items such as a whistle, head torch, survival bag, compass, map (OS Explorer OL16 recommended), hat and gloves, waterproof jacket and trousers, full length leggings, long sleeve thermal top, a minimum of 500 ml water, emergency food and a personal cup. First aid cover and a mobile ambulance are provided on the route and staff are located at the start and finish.

All finishers receive a bespoke medal and race memento; prizes are awarded to top male and female finishers across age categories. Electronic timing, instant online results and free event parking are included with entry. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
