The Winter Wipeout!

The Winter Wipeout is an early January out-and-back trail run based at Ingram Cafe in Northumberland (NE66 4LT). The course climbs to the summit of Hedgehope via Cunyan Crags, Dunmoor and Reaveley Hill, with a short section over Brough Law, before returning to the cafe. The distance is roughly a half marathon and the terrain and weather can make it feel longer.

The route is fully marked and a large safety team will be out in the hills. Runners are expected to be self-sufficient for food and water during the run. Required kit includes enough fluid for two hours, an emergency whistle, a waterproof top, hat and gloves, a mobile phone, and suitable off-road or trail shoes is recommended. There are no cut-off times for the event.

Registration and race facilities are at Ingram Cafe; toilet availability is subject to cafe hours. Ample free parking is provided on a nearby field, and overnight stays in campervans or tents are permitted. Entry includes a souvenir mug and hot soup after the run. The event is part of a winter trail series and features male and female overall and age-category awards.

Conditions can vary widely from snow and sleet to boggy or windy ground, and there will be a compulsory safety briefing before the start. Dogs are not permitted. There are no refunds or deferrals. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
