The Winter Tolkien Trail Race is scheduled for 13 December 2025 at Stonyhurst College, Hurst Green, Clitheroe, Lancashire, BB7 9PZ. The event has a minimum entry age of 18 and an entry fee of £25. The entry package includes a race medal, a buff, professional photography, chip timing by Timing Up North, on-site parking, and professional first aid. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers, overall category winners, and best fancy dress.

Registration and pre-order collection are located outside the front of Stonyhurst College. An event village will provide coffee, food and other refreshments. The course is fully flagged and marshalled.

Course and logistics

The course distance is 11.1 km with elevation of 528 ft, run counter-clockwise around the Tolkien Trail and finishing back at Stonyhurst College. The route starts on the avenue of Stonyhurst College, passes through the village of Hurst Green, descends a field known as "Mount Doom" into woodland, follows the Ribble River past an aqueduct built in 1880, and continues toward Cromwell Bridge (built in 1562) and ancient woodlands before returning to the college.

Parking is kept on the Stonyhurst College grounds, accessed via Knowels Brow Road, with a one-way system in operation on site. Runners may leave belongings at Race HQ at their own risk. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
