The Winter Tolkien Trail Race is a trail running event held on 13 December 2025 at Stonyhurst College, Hurst Green, Clitheroe, Lancashire (BB7 9PZ). The course is 11.1 km with about 528 ft of elevation and is run counter-clockwise around the Tolkien Trail. The route runs from the avenue at Stonyhurst through the village of Hurst Green, descends the field known as "Mount Doom," passes an aqueduct and the Ribble River, crosses near Cromwell Bridge and goes through ancient woodlands with a climb out of the area described as "Fangorn Forest," returning to finish with Stonyhurst College in view.

Logistics and included services

Entries have a stated fee of £25.00 and the event has an 18+ age minimum. The organiser provides on-site registration located outside the front of Stonyhurst College and on-site parking on the college grounds with a one-way system and marshal directions. Entry includes race mementos and branded goodies (the organiser lists a One Ring medal, a Tolkien Trail buff and a car sticker among post-race items), professional race photography, a fully flagged and marshalled course, an event village with food and drink, free on-site parking, professional first aid and chip timing by Timing Up North.
