The Saltmarsh 75
The Saltmarsh Ultra is a coastal ultramarathon along the Essex saltmarsh coastline, traditionally routed between South Woodham Ferrers and Salcott. This edition is approximately 50 miles and finishes in Maldon Promenade Park. The listed location for the event base is Marsh Farm Country Park, South Woodham Ferrers.
The event is open to runners and walkers and uses generous cut off times. All participants are issued individual GPS trackers and must check in at checkpoints as directed. GPS tracking is available to participants and to family or friends via an app. Route GPX files are available for download and the route is marked at key points but not extensively; participants are advised to carry a GPX file or a map copy.
The ultramarathon is fully supported with aid stations and checkpoints at regular intervals, typically around 10 to 15 km. Hot food and drinks are noted at a halfway location in Steeple and at Tollesbury before the final section. A designated First Aid team is present and there are arrangements with local landowners and a 4x4 access team to assist in remote areas. Due to the remote nature of the course, route details and aid station locations may change because of seawall works or accessibility issues.
The event operates a cupless policy; recyclable paper cups may be provided for hot drinks at some aid stations. Finishers receive an H&T Running Saltmarsh 75 bespoke medal, goody bag and finisher t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
