The Pendine Sands Races : event overview

The Pendine Sands Races for 2027 offer beach races over 5k, 10k and Half Marathon distances. All races use the same out-and-back beach course, with the full course length given as 3.28 miles (5.28 km). Distance flag markers are placed at 0.25 mile intervals along the route.

  • 5k : 2.5 km out and return to the finish.
  • 10k : one full out-and-back, total approx 10.5 km.
  • Half Marathon : two full out-and-backs.

The surface is firm sand historically used for land speed attempts. The event is cup-free: runners must carry a reusable cup for three self-service water stations positioned at the start/finish, the 2.5 km midpoint (used twice), and the 10 km turning point. Maximum allowable running time for all 2027 races is four hours.

Entries, transfers and fees are subject to the organiser’s terms. Entry fees for 2027 are listed as £30 for the 5k, £35 for the 10k and £40 for the Half Marathon; fees were adjusted due to per-person charges by the MOD. Finishers receive a bespoke Pendine medal and trophies are awarded to male and female champions in the 5k, 10k and Half Marathon categories.

The start/finish area is next to Barnacles Cafe, Sea View, Pendine, SA33 4NY. Parking is available in a nearby pay-and-display car park. Race numbers are collected at the start location on the day. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
