Spring Backyard Burn Trail Run - Laurel Hill

The Spring Backyard Burn is a trail running event held at Laurel Hill Park in Lorton, Virginia. This venue is situated on 1,600 acres of former prison grounds south of the Capital Beltway. Participants navigate a course that begins and ends at the Workhouse Arts Center, passing directly under the historical guard towers of the former Lorton Reformatory.

The event offers two race distances:

  • 5.4 Miles
  • 10 Miles

The terrain consists of a mixture of forested singletrack trails, open meadows, and fire roads. While the route includes some stream crossings and grassy fields, it features minimal pavement, with paved sections occurring primarily at the start and finish lines. The running surface is composed of dirt and crushed stone.

The course profile is characterized by frequent short ascents and descents rather than extended climbs. It is considered one of the less technical routes within the series. During the registration process, participants have the option to donate to Homestretch, a local non-profit organization that provides services to families in the area.
