Southern Rail Trail
The Southern Rail Trail event has been postponed to 29 May 2027. Organiser Elite Energy, a small family‑owned business, cited increased operating costs and a fuel crisis that has raised logistics and crew travel expenses as the reason for the change.
The courses follow the Great Southern Rail Trail, a largely flat former railway corridor in South Gippsland, Victoria. The route passes through historic towns and features old railway stations, heritage markers and restored trestle bridges. The trail offers views of coastal and rural landscapes in the region, including connections to areas near Wilsons Promontory.
Distances and formats offered:
- 100 km Port Welshpool to Alberton to Leongatha, individual and teams of 2 and 4
- 72 km Port Welshpool to Leongatha, individual and teams of 3
- 42.2 km Fish Creek to Leongatha
- 21.1 km Stony Creek to Leongatha
- 10 km Leongatha out and back
- 5 km Fun Run Leongatha out and back
- 2 km Family Dash Leongatha
The event notes a Presentation Breakfast for 100 km and 72 km finishers at Leongatha. Elite Energy plans to be pin free by 2026 and offers reusable BibSnaps for purchase or the option to use traditional pins. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
