Run the Blades

Run the Blades is a multi-distance trail running event held across a Friday to Sunday weekend in July within Whitelee Wind Farm, operated by ScottishPower Renewables. The event is based at an Event Village located at Turbine 53 near Eaglesham, around 20 minutes southwest of central Glasgow. Registration takes place on the day at the Event Village and parking is provided on site.

Distances offered

  • 10K
  • Half marathon
  • 50K ultramarathon
  • RTB mile for under 16s (free)

Routes mainly follow existing windfarm access roads, providing a transition from road to trail running. The surface is generally good but some sections can be muddy or rough underfoot; trail shoes are recommended. The 10K has one water station, the half marathon two, and the 50K four; each checkpoint is crewed and includes a portaloo. Drop bags are available for the 50K only.

Event Village facilities include a bank of portaloos including an accessible toilet, changing tents, an unsupervised bag drop, and a coffee truck. Finishers receive a goody bag that includes a rotating medal, water and selected food items. Prizes and prize money are awarded to the first three men and women in each adult distance. All participants must carry a mobile phone for emergency contact. Poles and dogs are not permitted on the course. Age limits apply for the adult races.
