Run the Blades

Run the Blades is a weekend trail running event held at Whitelee Wind Farm, Moor Road, Eaglesham. It takes place across several distances and uses the wind farm access roads as the primary route surface. Routes are marked and subject to change for operational needs of the wind farm.

Distances:

  • 10K
  • Half marathon
  • 50K Ultra
  • Junior RTB mile (under 16)

The trail mainly follows existing access roads and is not highly technical, though some sections can be muddy or rough; trail shoes are recommended. Water stations and checkpoints are provided: one on the 10K, two on the half marathon, and four on the 50K. Drop bags are available at checkpoints for the 50K only. All participants must carry a mobile phone for emergencies.

Event facilities are concentrated in an Event Village at Turbine 53. The village includes approximately 20 portaloos including an accessible toilet, changing tents, an unsupervised bag drop, a coffee truck and race registration. Free onsite parking is provided on the array roads; the Visitor Centre has level access, accessible entrances and disabled toilets. Age limits apply: individual entrants must be 17 or older, and entrants for the half marathon and 50K must be 18 or older. Poles and dogs are not permitted on the course. Prizes are awarded to the top three male and female finishers in each distance. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
