Run of the Mill

Run of the Mill is a hill running event organised by Ochil Hill Runners around the Alva area. The advertised course covers approximately 14.6 km with about 966 m of ascent and follows footpaths through Ochils Woodland Park toward Tillicoultry before returning to Alva Glen.

The route includes climbs to the summits of Andrew Gannel Hill, Ben Cleuch, Ben Ever and The Nebit. In this edition runners must climb The Nebit; in previous editions it was bypassed. The section toward Tillicoultry after the golf course will be flagged and participants are advised to watch for traffic on parts of the route.

Registration is based at Alva Scout Hall in Johnstone Park, Park Street, Alva. Car parking is available in and around Alva. Toilet facilities and limited indoor facilities are available at the scout hall. Refreshments are provided at the finish; participants are asked to bring a mug if they want tea or coffee.

Runners are expected to carry basic safety and navigation kit and to bring these items to registration: full waterproof body cover, hat, gloves, compass, whistle and a suitable map (one map is supplied but a more detailed map is preferable).

Prizes are awarded to the first three male and the first three female finishers, and to first place in age categories V40, V50, V60 and V70. The entry fee is £10. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
