Raven Rocks Run - Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, Cross River NY
Raven Rocks Run is a trail running event held at Ward Pound Ridge Reservation in Cross River, NY. The event includes an on-course 10 kilometer trail race and an associated November virtual distance challenge. The race course uses park trails and passes the site of the former fire tower.
The course features rocky climbs, ridgeline singletrack, hilly meadows, and ravines. There is a water stop around the 4 mile mark at the top of the fire tower climb. Course maps and logistics information are published for participants and course marking is used on race day.
The event is volunteer supported and includes a group of course checkers who inspect markings before the race. Photographers document the finish and course. Results are posted after the race. In one recent year 264 runners finished and roughly 40 volunteers staffed the event. The race supports the Friends of Trailside Museum and Ward Pound Ridge Reservation, and registrations have been used to raise funds for that group.
The virtual Raven 100k November Challenge runs from November 1 to November 30. Participants log walking, hiking, or running distances for the month and reported totals determine eligibility for a custom finisher woodallion and any earned badges.
