Event Overview
The Pronghorn Pursuit Trail Run is an annual off-pavement running event held on the High Trails system near Dillon, Montana. This year marks the sixth edition of the race, which is organized through a collaboration between the Beaverhead Trails Coalition and the Beaverhead County High School Cross Country team. For 2026, the event moves its starting location to the West Trailhead.
Course Details
The races take place on a mix of single-track trails and service roads throughout the sagebrush hills of the High Trails System. The routes provide views of the Beaverhead River Valley. The terrain includes a combination of steep climbs, technical descents, and flowing sections.
The following distances are available:
- 15k Trail Run: Features approximately 2400 feet of elevation gain on 90% single-track trail.
- 5k Trail Run: Includes sections with over 500 feet of climbing and a final downhill kilometer.
- Kid's 5k: A 3.1-mile trail race for participants aged 10 and under.
- 1-Mile Fun Run/Walk: A family-oriented event held in the afternoon as a fundraiser.
Participant Information
All races are chip-timed by the Butte Track Club. T-shirts are available as an optional add-on during the registration process rather than being included in the base fee. Those who purchase shirts after May 20th can collect them at a local business in Dillon or pay for shipping.
Food and awards are provided at the trailhead following the completion of the races. Race entry includes food for runners, while spectators may access the area for a small fee. Packet pickup is held the day before the event at the local Patagonia Outlet, where refreshments are served.
Location and Environment
