About the race
The Polar Bear Trail is an established winter trail event held in the Savelsbos, a protected hillside forest southeast of Maastricht. The 2027 edition is the 11th and is one of the few events permitted inside this nature reserve. Start and finish are located at Velorium Outdoor Sports & Bikepark.
The course runs largely through forest terrain and is mainly off road, with about 88 percent offroad sections. The landscape includes steep climbs and narrow singletrack passages; organisers describe a distinct wintry trail atmosphere that can include snow, mud, or freezing conditions. Three distance options are offered with notable elevation gain for each.

Published participant figures for recent editions show around 1,200 participants. Practical services mentioned for the event include parking, program and bib information, showers, aid stations, a medal and event goodies. Live tracking and official results are available through the Livio app. Registration is handled through the Passion for Sports online platform; group registration is possible from a minimum of 10 people.
