PHUNT 25K & 50K Trail Race

The event takes place on Saturday, January 16, 2027, at Fair Hill Natural Resource Management Area with the start/finish at Edward L. Walls Activity Hall, 4640 Telegraph Road, Elkton, MD 21921. Distances offered are:

  • 25K
  • 50K (two loops)

The course is a roughly 15.6 mile loop composed mostly of single-track trails, with about 1.0 mile of pasture/open field and 1.0 mile total on asphalt or gravel road. Terrain includes gentle rolling hills and climbs that do not exceed 150 feet. Major aid stations are located at mile 4.3, 7.5, and 11.5; the start/finish area also serves as an aid station for 50K runners. Aid stations provide items such as gels, electrolyte drink, water, soda, beer, snacks, fruit, broth, grilled cheese sandwiches, and Uncrustables, and each station will have a wood or propane fire pit.

Event logistics note a field limit of 600 runners and an online fee of $40 plus processing. All finishers receive a medal and a swag item (buff, beanie, or pint glass). The activity hall is heated, includes a full kitchen and restrooms, and has a capacity of 400 for gear or changing. Alcohol is permitted in the activity hall by bring your own bottle. Refunds, bib transfers, and deferment are not offered. Weather in mid-January can vary; average lows are around 24°F and highs around 42°F.
