Ouachita Trail 50 : Little Rock, Arkansas
The Ouachita Trail 50 is the 35th running of an endurance event held at Maumelle Park, Pavilion #8, in Little Rock. The event is organized by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and proceeds benefit Pinnacle Mountain State Park. The program includes two race distances:
- 50 Mile
- 50 km
The course begins and ends with about two miles of pavement between Maumelle Park and the eastern terminus of the Ouachita Trail at Pinnacle Mountain State Park. Both distances feature a climb over Pinnacle Mountain and an out-and-back section along the north shore of Lake Maumelle on the Ouachita National Recreation Trail. Much of the route is rocky, single-track trail marked with blue blazes and additional ribbon markers; turns are marked with two blue blazes. Pinnacle Mountain trails and a loop are used on the outbound portion only. Around the 16 mile point 50K runners are diverted off the Ouachita Trail toward the Northshore aid station. The course includes several highway crossings and may be rerouted to avoid the top of Pinnacle Mountain in wet conditions per park requirements.
Support includes eleven staffed aid stations for the 50 mile and seven for the 50K offering water, sports drink, snacks and basic food; no pain relievers are provided. Crew access points, drop bag procedures, and enforced cut-off rules are specified for both races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
