Event Details

The MTC Banshee is a 44-mile ultra marathon. It is the fifth day of the larger MizMal ® footrace, which is an end-to-end challenge across Ireland. The route follows most of the MizMal ® route as provided by Wild Atlantic Cycling.

Route

The race starts at the Limerick City Hotel and finishes at Dough, Miltown Malbay in County Clare. The course passes through several checkpoints. The total distance is 44.4 miles. Runners must be prepared for all weather conditions.

Race Information

The event has a competitor limit of 20 individual entrants, with an additional 20 places for participants in the full MizMal ® series. There is a minimum pace requirement of 4 mph; runners falling below this average may be withdrawn. This is a cup-free event, so participants must bring their own reusable cup.

Mandatory Kit

Competitors must carry:

  • A backpack
  • A head torch with spare batteries
  • Route maps (provided)
  • A compass or GPS device
  • A whistle
  • A mobile phone
  • An emergency food pack
  • A basic first aid kit

All finishers receive a bespoke Banshee medal. The male and female champions receive a unique trophy. An entry upgrade option includes an official race shirt and a hi-viz jacket.

Logistics

Trail runs nearby

The Aherlow Trail 11.5k is a forest trail run in Tipperary with 352m of climb. It features a 5km junior option and requires basic mandatory kit. The event is part of the Coillte Winter/Spring Trail League.
