MTC BANSHEE

The MTC BANSHEE is a single-day point to point ultra run that forms Day 5 of the fourteen day MTC MizMal series and is part of the Mount to Coast End to End Challenge. The published total distance for the route is 44.4 miles, with 1,989 ft of ascent and 1,994 ft of descent. The route starts at Limerick City Hotel and finishes at Dough, Miltown Malbay, County Clare. Checkpoints are located at Ballinphunta (9 miles), Newmarket (17 miles), Ballymacaula (25.4 miles) and R474 Cloonbooly (34.2 miles).

Competitor numbers are limited to 20 entries plus an allowance of 20 MizMal participants, giving a maximum of 40 runners. All entrants must be at least 20 years old on race day. The event uses preset cut-off times based on a minimum average speed of 4 mph; falling below this minimum can result in withdrawal. Finishers receive a bespoke BANSHEE medal and male and female champions receive trophies.

Maps and GPX files are provided to entrants only and are emailed before the event. Each competitor will carry a supplied tracking device with an SOS function and real-time monitoring is available for the race. Mandatory kit includes a backpack, head torch with spare batteries, route maps, compass or GPS device, whistle, mobile phone, basic first aid and an emergency food pack of two chocolate bars.
