Mt. Sopris Run-off
The Mt. Sopris Run-off is a trail running event held in the Roaring Fork Valley of Colorado. After historically being held in July, the event has moved to May as part of a broader trail running festival weekend. The competition utilizes the local "Up & Over" single track trail system, with all races operating under a special permit from the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.
Participants can choose between two point-to-point course distances:
- 10-Miler: Includes 1.75 miles of pavement and dirt road before transitioning to single track trails.
- 28k: Features single track traverses and a descent through the switchbacks of the Glassier Trail.
Both distances begin at Flying Dog Ranch in Carbondale and conclude with a finish line celebration at Rock Bottom Ranch in Basalt. The courses consist primarily of single track trails, with some brief sections on the paved Rio Grande Trail and dirt roads. Runners encounter various terrain, including climbs through Christmas Tree trail and descents through sage fields on the Buckhorn trail.
Two aid stations are located along the 10-Miler route, while the 28k course features three aid stations. These stations provide water, electrolyte mix, and carbohydrate options such as gels and chews. A time cut-off is in place for the 28k distance; runners who do not reach the 8.6-mile mark by the designated time are redirected to the shorter course. The event weekend also includes a Trail Running Film Festival held the evening before the races. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
