Marin Ultra Challenge
The Marin Ultra Challenge is a trail running event near Sausalito, CA that routes through the Marin Headlands, Muir Woods, and Mount Tamalpais State Park, starting and finishing at Rodeo Beach. Distances offered include:
- 50 Mile , approximately 50.2 miles with about 10,550 feet of elevation gain
- 50K , approximately 30.8 miles with about 6,000 feet of elevation gain
Courses combine moderately technical dirt single-track, non-technical fire roads, long climbs and long descents. The route passes coastal viewpoints, redwood canopies, and multiple terrain types with minimal trail overlap between routes. Hiking poles are permitted.
Aid stations supply a mix of energy gels and chews, packaged snacks, PB&J sandwiches, salty foods, soda, water and Skratch Hydration. Gu gels will not be provided at certain Golden Gate National Recreation Area aid stations (Conzelman, Tennessee Valley, Muir Beach, Willow Camp). This is a cupless event; runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup. Organizers recommend carrying at least one 20 oz bottle.
Drop bags are available at Tennessee Valley (Mile 10.5) and Cardiac (Mile 19.8 and Mile 29.3 for the 50 Mile), with Tennessee Valley also serviced later in the course (Mile 45.8). Live timing and aid-station tracking will be used. Time limits are 14.5 hours for the 50 Mile and 10 hours for the 50K; all runners must be off course by 8:30 PM. Event capacity is 450 entrants.
The 50 Mile awards cash prizes to the top three male and female finishers: $1,000, $500, and $250 respectively. Volunteers receive a race shirt, food and credit toward future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
