Marin Ultra Challenge

The Marin Ultra Challenge is a long-distance trail event in Marin County, California, taking place on March 13, 2027. The courses begin at the black sand of Rodeo Beach and traverse Marin Headlands, Mt. Tamalpais (Stinson-facing terrain), and Muir Woods. The routes include exposed fire roads with coastal and inland views and tight, technical single-track under redwood canopies. Course design minimizes trail overlap.

Events offered:

  • 50 Mile
  • 50K

The 50 Mile course includes about 11,000 feet of elevation gain. Time limits are set for each distance; the 50 Mile has a 14 hour limit and the 50K has a 10 hour limit. The race has a total capacity of 500 runners. Timing and aid-station tracking will be provided by ultralive.net with a small timing fee added to entries.

Aid stations supply a range of foods and drinks such as energy gels and chews, stroopwafels, trail mix, salty snacks, boiled potatoes, Coke, ginger ale, water, Skratch hydration mix, PB&J, fruit, and basic first aid items. Skratch is mixed at about 80–100 calories per 20 fluid ounces. Runners are advised to carry at least one 20 oz bottle and to place a headlamp in drop bags if they expect to be running after sunset. Drop bag locations include Tennessee Valley and Cardiac aid stations (specific mile points vary by distance).

Awards include custom trophies, medals, age-group medals, and cash prizes for top finishers in the 50 Mile. Volunteers receive event shirts, food, and credit toward future events. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
