Mad Max Marathon : Broken Hill Racecourse, NSW (26 July 2026)
The Mad Max Marathon Running Festival takes place at the Broken Hill Racecourse in Broken Hill, NSW on 26 July 2026. The event is based at the racecourse, which is about 6 km from Broken Hill’s main street; participants should arrange their own transport to the venue.
The courses run mainly on dirt tracks with the desert landscape as a backdrop. All longer events start with the Broken Hill Racecourse parkrun loop, use dirt tracks alongside Racecourse Road and the Silver City Highway, and the 10 km, half-marathon and marathon finish with a 2 km lap of the racecourse. The marathon is two laps of the half-marathon course.

On-course support includes four drink stations with cups available, occasional lollies, and community staffing by the Broken Hill Rotary Club. Marathon and half-marathon runners are advised to consider hydration vests or refillable containers. Personal items can be left in a staffed marquee at the start. Bib and pre-purchased t-shirt collection is available at the Gary Radford Pavilion on the weekend before and on race day.
First aid is provided by St John’s with staff and a vehicle based at the Gary Radford Pavilion. All finishers in the 5 km, 10 km, half-marathon and marathon receive a Mad Max finishers medal; trophies are awarded to top finishers in several events and award ceremonies are held progressively through the day.
