Mad Max Marathon 2026 : Overview

The Mad Max Marathon Running Festival takes place at the Broken Hill Racecourse in Broken Hill, NSW on 26 July 2026. The event offers multiple race options and includes fundraising support for the Maari Ma Health Aboriginal Corporation. All finishers in the marathon, half marathon, 10km and 5km receive an event medal. Event t-shirts are available for purchase. Trophies are awarded to the first three men and first three women in the marathon, half marathon and 10km, and to the first man and first woman in the 5km. A 2km kids event is free but requires registration.

Course and logistics

The course starts and finishes at the Broken Hill Racecourse and begins with the Broken Hill Racecourse parkrun loop. Longer routes use flat dirt tracks alongside Racecourse Road and the Silver City Highway; the marathon is two laps of the half-marathon course. The 10km, half-marathon and marathon include a final 2km lap of the racecourse. The racecourse is about 6 km from Broken Hill’s main street, so participants should arrange transport in advance. Bib and shirt collection is handled at the Gary Radford Pavilion. Personal items can be left in a staffed marquee at the start. Four drink stations are provided on course; cups and some lollies will be available and runners are encouraged to use hydration vests or carry a refillable container. St John’s will provide first aid support with staff and a vehicle. Late registration is available on the weekend with no extra fee. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
