Leaky Hourglass Ultra
The Leaky Hourglass is a Last Man Standing running event held in Half Way, MO at 2055 Hwy Z. Runners complete repeated out-and-back laps of 4.167 miles. The unique rule is that the allowable cutoff time shrinks by one minute after each lap: the first lap has 60 minutes, the next 59 minutes, and so on, until only one runner can complete a lap.
The course is a chip-sealed rural highway with rolling hills and roughly 250' of elevation gain per lap. The route is not closed to traffic; runners are advised to run facing traffic and are required to carry a headlamp and a flasher after sunset. There is one manned aid station at the start/finish and one unmanned aid station at the turnaround.
Aid station supplies at the start/finish include Tailwind Endurance Fuel, water, chips, pickles, candy bars, Scooby snacks, and various hot and cold options. The turnaround point has Tailwind Endurance Fuel, water, and prepackaged snacks available in a tote.
The site is about 20 miles north of Springfield, MO, where hotel options are available. Primitive camping is permitted on site for Friday and Saturday night. No refunds will be issued. Professional race photos will be provided free of charge by Mile 90 Photography. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
