Lazy A Backyard Ultra

The Lazy A Backyard Ultra in Udall, KS is an endurance running event that uses a repeating lap format. Runners complete successive laps of 4.167 miles (6.706 kilometers); each completed lap counts as one Yard and 24 Yards equal 100 miles. The event takes place at 1868 E 60th Ave N in Udall.

Laps begin every hour on the hour and each lap must be completed within one hour. Any time remaining in the hour may be used for rest, eating, hydration, or preparation for the next lap. A runner who fails to finish a lap within the hour, misses the start of a lap, or quits is eliminated. The race continues until only one runner completes one additional lap beyond all others; if no runner completes an extra lap, there is no winner.

Common aid stations are provided on course. Personal pacing or assistance on the course is not allowed; crew support is allowed only between laps at the start/finish area. Runners are responsible for their own hydration and fueling and should carry a handheld or hydration vest as appropriate. Runners must wear a reflective or light vest and carry a light or headlamp after dark. The course uses public roadways; runners should be aware of traffic and run on the left. Dogs are not permitted. Organizers may intervene if a runner is judged unfit to continue.

All participants receive a bib, t-shirt, and a custom medallion showing Yards completed. First place male, female, and non-binary finishers receive free entry for the following year and a Lazy A railroad spike knife. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
