New Year's Resolution Run
The New Year's Resolution Run is a trail running event held in Wamboin, New South Wales. Organized by the Wamboin Trail Runners Inc., the event takes place within the native forests and forestry trails of Kowen Forest. Participants start and finish at the Wamboin Community Hall on Bingley Way, traversing a 1.3 km section of sealed bitumen before entering the forest environment.
Available distances include:
- 21.1 km half marathon with 680 meters of elevation gain and forest trails.
- 12 km trail run featuring 8 km of continuous single track in native forest.
The half marathon course utilizes a combination of dirt forestry trails and three distinct sections of single track totaling 2.5 km. This route includes an ascent of Mt Amungula and provides views of Canberra and the surrounding region. The 12 km course involves over 320 meters of climbing. Both distances have a maximum time limit of 4.5 hours for completion.
For safety reasons, all participants are required to carry specific mandatory gear, which is verified during a check before the event. Required items include a water container, a mobile phone with the race director's number saved, and a snake compression bandage. Failure to present these items at the gear check results in disqualification from the start.
Registration and gear checks are conducted on-site on the morning of the event. Presentations follow the completion of the races at the Wamboin Community Hall. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
