Ikara Ultra

The Ikara Ultra is a trail running event held in the Flinders Ranges of South Australia. The course is situated within a landscape of significant geological and cultural importance, including areas that are over 600 million years old and feature evidence of early multicellular life. The event utilizes parts of the Heysen Trail and passes through diverse terrain such as Wilpena Pound, old pastoral stations, and creek lines.

Participants travel through a variety of historical and natural landmarks, including homesteads, ruins, shearing sheds, and mountain tops. The 100 Miler course begins at Mt Little Station, while the shorter distances start at Wilpena Pound. Wilpena Pound also serves as the common finish line for all event categories.

The following distances are available for participants:

  • 100 Miler (161 km)
  • 100 km
  • 50 Miler (80 km)
  • 50 km

The event also offers a Buddy Runner registration for specific segments of the longer courses. These segments include distances from Trezona through to the finish line or a loop specifically within Wilpena Pound. The trail network connects various cultural sites of the Adnyamathanha people, the traditional custodians of the land, providing a venue for runners to experience the outback environment.
