Ikara Ultra is a trail running event held at Ikara - Wilpena Pound in the Flinders Ranges, South Australia, on 1 May 2026. The event uses a trail network around Wilpena Pound and nearby stations and wilderness areas within the Flinders Ranges.
Distances offered include:
- 100 Miler
- 100 km
- 50 Miler
- 50 km
- Buddy runner options from specified checkpoints
The course passes through a variety of Outback landscapes including old stations, creeks, shearing sheds, homesteads, mountain tops and ruins. The 100 Miler starts at Mt Little Station; shorter distances start at Wilpena Pound, which also hosts the finish line for all events.
The Flinders Ranges are described in the event material as more than 600 million years old and are noted for their fossils and geology, including Ediacaran fossil evidence. The Adnyamathanha People are identified as the traditional custodians of this country; the name Ikara is presented as an Aboriginal name for meeting place. The Heysen Trail also begins in Ikara-Flinders Ranges and continues south through the Adelaide Hills.
