HURL Elkhorn
HURL Elkhorn is a set of mountain trail races in the Elkhorn Mountains near Helena, MT, offered in three distances. All courses are off-pavement and run through remote, roadless backcountry on technical single track, primitive double-track jeep road, and Forest Service road. Trail sections are closed to motorized vehicles and vehicle access to primitive road sections is difficult.
Course features include rocky trails, forests, meadows, creek crossings, a historic ghost town and cemetery, a mountain lake, and multiple creek fords. Wildlife commonly reported on course includes deer, elk, moose, bear, coyote, mountain goat, and bovines. Aid stations are placed on each course; station counts and longest aid distances vary by distance.

- 50 Mile: 37 miles technical single track, 13 miles jeep road, 1 mile FS road
- 50 K: 27 miles technical single track, 3 miles primitive jeep road
- 13.1 Mile: 100% technical single track, creek crossings, about 3,300 ft gain
Approximate elevation gains and maximum elevations are provided per distance: the 50 Mile lists about 13,400 ft of gain and a maximum elevation just under 9,000 feet; the 50 K lists about 7,900 ft of gain and a maximum elevation near 8,000 feet; the 13.1 Mile lists about 3,300 ft of gain and a maximum elevation near 7,200 feet. Aid station counts and the longest gaps between stations differ by course.
