All courses run on dirt trails with no pavement. Routes include very technical single track, primitive or double track jeep road, and maintained Forest Service road sections. Trail sections are closed to motorized vehicles and some primitive road access is difficult. The courses pass through roadless, remote backcountry with forests, meadows, creek crossings, a historic ghost town and cemetery, and a mountain lake.
50 Mile: 37 miles of technical single track, about 13 miles of primitive jeep road and 1 mile of maintained dirt Forest Service road. Approximate elevation gain is 13,400 feet with maximum elevation just under 9,000'. There are 8 aid stations and the longest distance between aid stations is 7 miles.
50K: About 27 miles of technical single track plus 3 miles of primitive jeep road. Elevation gain is approximately 7,900 feet with a maximum elevation near 8,000'. There are 5 aid stations and the longest distance between aid stations is 8 miles.
13.1 Mile: 100% technical single track with several creek crossings, roughly 3,300 feet of elevation gain and maximum elevation near 7,200'. There are 2 aid stations and the longest gap is 6 miles.
Packet pickup is Friday July 31, 2026 at the Montana City Volunteer Fire Department between 4:00 and 6:30 PM at 1192 Highway 282 in Montana City; course briefings occur at 4:30 and 5:30. All races start and finish at the Willard Creek Trailhead at the end of Forest Service Road 4014. Participants may camp at the trailhead; tow behind trailers are discouraged. Allow at least 45 minutes driving time from Helena and check in about 15 minutes before each race.
