Hell on Hogsback
Hell on Hogsback is an endurance running event in Cleveland, Ohio held on August 29, 2026. The event raises funds for people and families facing cancer; 100% of registrations and donations are distributed directly through the Nelson Family Foundation.
The event is a max-distance challenge on a 1.1 mile loop (0.8 mile road and 0.3 mile trail) with about 140 ft of elevation gain and loss per lap and an average grade near 12%. Participants aim to complete as many laps as possible within a chosen time limit. The course features a steep descent, a sharp turn, and a long climb back up; each lap is counted toward the total distance.

Support on course includes a fully stocked aid station, on-site medical and physical therapy services, and nutrition and hydration support. Post-event recovery offerings include saunas and cold plunges. Official results record distance as the total completed laps within each participant’s time window; tied athletes resolve placement by completing one additional lap.
The event grew from a community tribute following a major surgery and now involves monthly hill training runs from March through August at the race site, with parking available at Stinchcomb-Groth Memorial Hill. In 2025, more than 300 runners helped deliver $20,000 directly to beneficiaries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
