Hawthorn Half Day Relay & Ultra

The Hawthorn Half Day Relay & Ultra began in 2006 and marks its 20th anniversary in 2026. The event is a time based endurance format that offers six hour and twelve hour options for runners and walkers on a scenic 5K loop of trail and road. A half mile short course is available during the final 30 minutes so laps can be completed as needed.

Race categories include solo entries and team relays. Categories described by the organizer include six hour solo and three person teams, twelve hour solo, two person teams, and three to six person teams. Walk only formats are offered for both six hour and twelve hour durations.

Distances

  • 100 miles
  • 50 miles

Runners pass through a Runners Village on every lap, with a designated space for tents, crew, and gear. Race Headquarters provides cold drinks, snacks, and basic essentials. Campgrounds along the course offer optional camping plus restrooms and water stations. Additional event services include live online tracking, professional race photography, post race awards and giveaways, overall awards and finisher medals, and a baked potato bar and pie.

The event emphasizes lap counting and time on course rather than a fixed distance, and teams may divide laps according to their own plan. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
