The Great Western Half Marathon & 10K is organized by Fox River Trail Runners and is scheduled for Sunday, May 3, 2026. The event offers a flat, out-and-back course on the western portion of the Great Western Trail. The trail surface includes limestone and is a rails-to-trails conversion: the Chicago Great Western Railway operated from 1885 to 1968 and the path has been open for public use since 1978. The club has more than 25 years of history hosting this half-marathon and 10K.

Fox River Trail Runners donates $5 per participant registration, and participant donations above registration fees are added and split equally among three local non-profit mental health charity partners.
