Goyt Valley Challenge
The event is based at Buxton Community School, Buxton, and offers two route lengths through the western Peak District. The long route includes higher ground and greater total ascent while the short route returns to Buxton via Fernilee Dam.
- 26.2 miles route via Axe Edge, Goyt Valley and Shining Tor
- 14.3 miles route via Axe Edge and Goyt Valley returning via Fernilee Dam
The long route records about 4000 ft of ascent and the short route about 2000 ft of ascent. Named features on the routes include Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme and Taxal Moor. Parking is at the College Road entrance to the school and marshals may direct participants to alternative parking if required.
The event uses the Fabian4 timing system and wristbands must be handed back at the finish. There is a bag drop at the event headquarters. Parts of the routes cross moorland and areas of the Peak District National Park; participants are asked to carry suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, map, compass and whistle.
No dogs are allowed. Checkpoints provide refreshments and there is a hot meal at the finish. Limited water is available at Checkpoint 1. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options can be selected on the entry form. A mug with the event logo is available to buy for £3 and a commemorative Buff for £9. Certificates are available on request. Entries are managed through SiEntries. Non LDWA members are not covered by LDWA insurance. No refunds.
