Goyt Valley Challenge

The Goyt Valley Challenge is an event organized by the High Peak LDWA, starting and finishing at Buxton Community School in Buxton, Derbyshire. Participants travel through the western Peak District, crossing moorland and varied terrain. The event offers two distinct distances:

  • 26.2 Miles (4000ft ascent)
  • 14.3 Miles (2000ft ascent)

The long route incorporates Axe Edge, Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme, Taxal Moor, and Fernilee Dam. The short route passes through Axe Edge and the Goyt Valley before returning to Buxton via Fernilee Dam. Due to the nature of the moorland environment, participants are required to carry or wear appropriate equipment, including suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, a map, a compass, and a whistle.

Checkpoints along the course provide refreshments, and a hot meal is served at the finish. Participants must bring their own mug for drinks, as no disposable cups are provided. The event uses the Fabian4 timing system, and all participants are issued wristbands that must be returned at the finish.

Registration takes place at the school from 6.30am. Parking is available at the College Road entrance to the school as directed by marshals. While under 18s are welcome when accompanied by a responsible adult, dogs are not permitted at this event. Facilities at the headquarters include a bag drop and optional commemorative items available for purchase. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
