Goyt Valley Challenge

The event takes place on Saturday 3 October 2026 with start and finish at Buxton Community School, College Road, Buxton SK17 9EA. It is organised by LDWA - High Peak and entries are accepted through SiEntries. Entries open 1 March 2026 and close 26 September 2026. Entry fees are shown for LDWA members and non members.

There are two route options:

  • 26.2 miles long route via Axe Edge, Goyt Valley and Shining Tor; 4000 ft ascent
  • 14.3 miles short route via Axe Edge and Goyt Valley; 2000 ft ascent

The long route passes through the western Peak District and features Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme, Taxal Moor and Fernilee Dam. Checkpoints provide refreshments and a hot meal is available at the finish. Limited water is available at Checkpoint 1; participants are advised to ensure they carry sufficient water between checkpoints.

A timing system is used and wristbands must be returned at the finish. A bag drop is available at the event HQ. Certificates are available to finishers on request. Merchandise for sale includes a mug and a commemorative buff with stated prices. Under 18s are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

Trail runs nearby

A 3 km or 5 km run at Bowdon Rugby Club with drinking stations every kilometre and a mix of inflatable and non inflatable obstacles. Drinks are included and only participants aged 18 or over may take part.

Three trail routes start at Bakewell Showground and explore varied Peak District terrain including moors, valleys and parts of the Pennine Way. The Half Marathon route includes outposts and does not allow dogs.

A timed track ultra at Woodbank Park where runners complete as many 400 m laps as possible within 6, 12 or 24 hour limits, with chip timing, an aid station and indoor facilities on site.

Trail races at Tatton Park on 31 May 2026 offer 5 km, 10 km and half marathon routes across grassland, woodlands and park paths. Live chip timing, on-site parking, and a medal plus refreshments for finishers.
