Goyt Valley Challenge

The event starts and finishes at Buxton Community School, College Road, Buxton SK17 9EA. It offers two marked routes through the western Peak District and passes locations such as Axe Edge, Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme, Taxal Moor and Fernilee Dam.

Distances:

  • 26.2 miles - through Western Peak District via Axe Edge, Shining Tor; 4000 ft ascent.
  • 14.3 miles - via Axe Edge and Goyt Valley, return via Fernilee Dam; 2000 ft ascent.

Car parking is available at the College Road entrance and marshals may direct participants to alternative parking. There is a bag drop at the event headquarters. Checkpoints provide refreshments and a hot meal is available at the finish. Limited water is noted at one early checkpoint.

The event uses the Fabian4 timing system and all timing wristbands must be returned at the finish. Under 18s are welcome but must be accompanied by a responsible adult. No dogs are allowed.

Participants are advised to carry appropriate equipment for moorland and variable weather, including suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, a map, compass and a whistle. Vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options are offered for those with dietary needs. Entry is managed through SiEntries and fees differ for LDWA members and non members. Trail runs nearby

A multi-terrain five-mile race around Manchester Airport Runway 2, including the Bollin Tunnel. Organised by Wilmslow RC, entries are limited, proceeds go to MNDA and the event is EA certified.

A 10 km trail race through Stalybridge Country Park and local moorland. Finishers receive a local chip muffin voucher for completing this event organized by Crazy Legs Events.

An evening trail race in Shirtcliffe Woods organised by Handsworth Roadhogs, run over two laps totalling 5.25 miles (8.5 km). Entry is online only with fees of £6 for UKA affiliated and £8 for unaffiliated runners.

A 9.5 km fell race to the summit of Win Hill on 1 July 2026 with 451 metres of ascent. Entry is by on the day fee and all profits support local charities and community groups.
