Goyt Valley Challenge

The Goyt Valley Challenge takes place on October 3, 2026, starting and finishing at Buxton Community School in Buxton. There are two route options:

  • Long: 26.2 Miles
  • Short: 14.3 Miles

Both routes explore the Western Peak District. The long route passes Axe Edge, Goyt Valley, Shining Tor, Lamaload Reservoir, Kettleshulme, Taxal Moor, and Fernilee Dam, with a total ascent of 4000ft. The short route also goes to Axe Edge and Goyt Valley, returning via Fernilee Dam, with 2000ft of ascent. Parking is available at the College Road entrance as directed by marshals.

Participants must finish by 6.00pm at the school. The event welcomes walkers and runners, with staggered start times. Parts of the route are on moorland within the Peak District National Park; carrying suitable footwear, waterproofs, warm clothing, a map, compass, and whistle is advised. Dogs are not allowed.

Refreshments, including a hot meal, are available at checkpoints and the finish. Special diets (vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free) can be catered for. Participants need to bring their own mug for drinks. A commemorative buff and certificates for finishers are available. There will be a bag drop at the start.

Entries open on March 1, 2026, and close on September 26, 2026. A different entry fee applies for members of the LDWA and non-members. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
