Golden Gate Headlands Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K : 2026

The event takes place at the Marin Headlands Visitor Center, Fort Barry, in Mill Valley, California, with start and finish at the Historic Gunnery Range in Rodeo Valley. Distances offered include:

The course combines single track hiking trails and fire roads. Runners will pass panoramic viewpoints that include the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco Bay to the east, and the Pacific Ocean to the west, with coastal shoreline and seasonal wildflowers visible along parts of the route. The course is marked with orange ribbon and marathon participants complete the half marathon loop twice, with a required check in at the finish before starting the second loop.

Aid station layout varies by distance: there are no aid stations on the 10K, one aid station at mile 6 for the half marathon, and aid stations at miles 6, 13, and 19 for the marathon. The overall course cut off time is six hours. Hikers and walkers are welcome to participate. Headphones and other audio devices are not allowed on course sections with narrow trails and steep drop offs for safety reasons.

Logistics note: athlete check in is located in the field across from the Marin Headlands Visitor Center and bibs are mailed to participants. Parking is on Smith Road toward Rodeo Beach with parking attendants directing vehicles. The event is limited to 400 participants and typically sells out. Scenic races at San Leandro Marina on February 14, 2026, with half marathon, 10K, 5K and a remote runner option. The mostly flat bayside course stays close to the water and offers views of San Francisco and the Bay.

Trail races at Lake Chabot on February 21, 2026, from 5K to 50K across dirt trails, fire roads and some pavement, timed with disposable chips. Aid stations are stocked and the event is cupless so runners carry their own bottles or cups.
