Global Running Fest : Sports Basement Berkeley

Global Running Fest takes place at Sports Basement Berkeley on May 31 as a day-long festival that highlights road and trail running, local running groups, and fundraising for youth running programs. The event is open to all ages and includes free parking.

The festival offers free group runs and a kids run, shoe demo opportunities from major brands, access to local race information and discounted entries, on-site fitness and health professionals, a live DJ, food and beer, and all-day raffles totaling over $5,000 in prizes. Exclusive in-store discounts are listed for Basementeers and non-Basementeers.

Both primary runs are self-supported - there are no aid stations and no course marshals on route. Participants are advised to bring water and fuel and to download routes to their devices because cell service is not guaranteed. All participants must complete the event waiver before taking part.

Distances offered include:

  • 5K Road Run: 3.86 mi, 154 ft gain, smooth out-and-back on Milvia Street
  • Trail Run: 4.76 mi, 1,072 ft gain, Clark Kerr Trail to Panoramic Way
  • Kids Run: up to 1 mile

Beer sales at the event direct proceeds to the beneficiary Running for a Better Oakland, a free youth running program serving K–12 students. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
