The Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run takes place at Laurel Hill in Lorton, Virginia. The race starts and ends under the old guard towers at the Workhouse Arts Center, located on the site of the former Lorton Reformatory.

The Course

The course winds through 1600 acres of former prison grounds. It includes a mixture of forested and open meadow singletrack. The surface is primarily a mix of dirt and crushed stone singletrack, with only short pavement sections at the beginning and end. The course is described as one of the least technical, with no extended climbs but many short ups and downs.

Participants can choose from two distances:

  • 5.4 miles (one lap)
  • 10 miles (two laps)
