Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run at Laurel Hill
This trail run takes place at the Workhouse Arts Center in Lorton, Virginia, on grounds that were once the Lorton Reformatory. The course weaves through forest and open meadow on singletrack that is mostly dirt and crushed stone, with only short pavement sections at the beginning and end. There are no extended climbs but the route has many short ups and downs. The race starts and finishes beneath the old guard towers.

Elevation gain is listed as 350 feet for the 5.4 mile option and 700 feet for the 10 mile option. Portable toilets are available at the start and finish. Event staging and parking are located at the ball field on the southern end of the Workhouse Arts Center complex, with entrances off Ox Road and Workhouse Road.
The event includes a free kids race for ages 2 to 11 and an optional supervised kids program that requires pre-registration and a separate fee. Race rules specify visible race bibs, no in ear headphones, no pets, pacers, or baby strollers on course, and staying on designated trails. Finish medals are an optional add on for this race and a series medal is provided for participants who complete all five races in the series.
