Backyard Burn at Fountainhead
This trail running event takes place at Fountainhead Regional Park along the Occoquan Reservoir in Fairfax Station, Virginia. The course uses hiking trails and some old dirt roads. The organizer has staged races at Fountainhead for over 15 years. The shorter course is a single loop while the longer course adds a lollipop out-and-back on the Bull Run Occoquan Trail.

Elevation gain is listed as 450 feet for the shorter distance and 1,000 feet for the longer distance. Bathrooms are provided as portajohns at the start and finish. Parking is available in the main paved lot and in adjacent grass fields. The event includes aid stations and medical support, and race registration notes post-race food such as breakfast burritos, music, awards, give-aways, and race swag. Finish medals are an optional add-on; a special series medal is awarded to participants who complete all five races.
A supervised kids program from Little Fern Learning runs during the race day and includes nature activities, STEM tasks, and a short kids race; pre-registration and a program fee are required. Race rules specify visible race numbers, no in-ear headphones, no pets, pacers, or strollers on course, outside assistance only near aid stations, and that runners must stay on designated trails.
