Fall Backyard Burn Trail Run - Fountainhead

The event takes place at Fountainhead Regional Park in Fairfax Station, VA, along the banks of the Occoquan Reservoir. The course uses hiking trails and some old dirt roads and is staged near the park's main parking area with additional parking in adjacent grass fields.

There are two course options:

  • 4.8 miles single loop
  • 10.5 miles 5-mile loop plus a lollipop out-and-back on the Bull Run Occoquan Trail

Elevation gain is listed as 450 feet for the shorter course and 1,000 feet for the longer course. Portable toilets are available at the start and finish. The event includes aid stations, medical support, post-race food, music, awards, giveaways, and race swag. Finish medals are an optional add-on.

A kids race and an accompanying kids program are offered. The kids race is for ages 2-11, runs in age groups as a short out-and-back, and participants can choose from a Treasure Box. The kids program includes nature exploration and STEM activities and requires pre-registration; program fees and sibling discounts are provided.

Race rules note that in-ear headphones are not permitted, outside assistance is limited to within 50 meters of aid stations, race numbers must be worn on the front, and pets, pacers, and strollers are not allowed. Participants must stay on designated trails and notify officials if they withdraw. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
