Expedition 12K

Event

The Expedition 12K Trail Race takes place on Sunday, April 26, 2026, in Whitehall, Montana, at Lewis and Clark Caverns State Park. Registration opens January 7, 2026. The listed entry fee is $60. Registration includes chip timing, park entry, a custom race shirt and an additional custom item, post-race brunch and a drink, plus eligibility for awards and raffle prizes. Packet pickup is available Saturday at Bozeman Running Company and there is a race-morning pickup option at the park for traveling runners.

Course and logistics

The course is primarily single-track trail with a few asphalt road crossings and features sharp turns and sweeping views of the Jefferson Valley. The course includes more than 2,200 ft of vertical gain and more than 2,100 ft of vertical loss. Trails are typically dry and clear of snow and mud, but mid-April conditions can be unpredictable; participants should prepare for variable weather. There are two cupless aid stations on course; runners must provide their own cup or hydration system or purchase a reusable race cup at registration. The event encourages carpooling to reduce parking demand and environmental impact. Participants are asked to follow trail care rules: carry out all trash and stay on designated trails.

Policies and awards

Awards will be given to top Male, Female and Non Binary finishers. The race does not allow bib transfers, cancellations or rollovers. Refunds are available only through REGSHIELD Race Insurance if purchased at checkout; REGSHIELD must be bought at registration and refund requests are handled through that provider.
