Doctors Gate Fell Race

Doctors Gate is a fell race held on 21 February 2026, starting and finishing at Hawkshead Mill, Hope Street, Glossop. The course covers 12.7 miles (20.5 km) with around 1000 m (about 3280 ft) of ascent and is a counter in the 2026 English Fell Running Championships.

The route follows the old packhorse way out of Old Glossop to the Pennine Way, then to Higher Shelf Stones and Lower Shelf Stones. After returning to Doctors Gate, it climbs James Thorn via Shelf Benches and returns to Old Glossop via Dog Rock, Torside Clough and Cock Hill. The race takes place on open moorland and includes sections with no paths; navigational skills are required and checkpoints will be in place.

Entry is by pre-entry and there is an on-the-day option. Pre-entry fees are £15 for FRA members and £16 for non-members. Entry-on-day fees are higher and a waiting list will be used if the event reaches its 500-person limit. Entries for FRA members open earlier than general entries, and a specified closing date applies.

Race entry includes a waterproof map and food. Food will be provided at the finish and a presentation with prizes will follow. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
