The Deadman Peaks Trail Run is a high desert trail race near Cuba, New Mexico, on the Continental Divide Trail through the Rio Puerco Valley. The course lies mostly on single track with some jeep trails and includes sand, rocks, and slickrock across rolling terrain. Elevations along the route range roughly from 6,350 to 7,400 ft. The route passes through pinon forest and hoodoos and offers views of badlands, mesas, mountains, and volcanic plugs such as Cabezon Peak. The event supports the Continental Divide Trail.
Courses and logistics
Distances offered include:
- 53 mile out-and-back, starting near Cuba and heading south toward Cabezon Peak
- 55K following the 53-mile route to La Ventana aid station and returning
- 30K up the mesa, turning at the Portales aid station
- 10 mile out-and-back
The 53-mile race allows a pacer from the turnaround point back to the finish. The start/finish location is on Highway 197, about 4 miles west of Highway 550 near Cuba, NM. There are no refunds; bib transfers are allowed through October 31 for the same distance. All entrants receive a custom race bib, a t-shirt, and a finisher medal.
