Deadman Peaks Trail Run
The Deadman Peaks Trail Run is a high desert trail race near Cuba, New Mexico, held along sections of the Continental Divide Trail through the Rio Puerco Valley. The course is mostly single track with some jeep trails and moves across sand, rock and slickrock. Terrain includes rolling sections and several notable hills, with elevation between about 6,350 and 7,400 ft. The route passes through piñon forest and hoodoos and offers views of badlands, mesas, mountains and volcanic plugs such as Cabezon Peak. The event supports the Continental Divide Trail.
Distances offered include:
- 53 mile out-and-back starting near Cuba toward Cabezon Peak, returns to the start.
- 55K follows the 53 mile course with turnaround at La Ventana remote aid station.
- 30K climbs the mesa then drops to Mesa Portales aid station as the turnaround.
- 10 miler out-and-back aimed at newer trail runners and crews.
The start and finish are on Highway 197, four miles west of Highway 550 near Cuba, NM. The 53 mile course allows a pacer from the turnaround back to the finish. Race swag includes a custom race bib, t-shirt and finisher medal. No refunds are offered; bib transfers are allowed until October 31 for the same distance, and the race director may consider special circumstances.
