Cadair X

Cadair X is a mountain half marathon scheduled for 17 October 2026. The course covers 13.1 miles with a total height gain of 1165 m and is classified as mountain terrain: about 65% trail, 25% mountain path, and 10% tarmac. The route is an UTMB Index Race.

The course passes through ancient woodland and a wooded gorge, skirts glacial lakes such as Llyn Cau and Tal Y Llyn, and reaches the summit of Cadair Idris at 893 m. The section between 1 km and 3 km includes a sustained, steep ascent. Underfoot conditions are most difficult just after the summit where rocky terrain requires care on the descent. The return follows established paths including the Pony Path and sections of the Mary Jones walk, with quieter woodland tracks and waterfalls before finishing near Cadair Tearoom.

A GPX file for the route is available and the route will be marked with arrows. Checkpoints provide water and in some locations electrolytes and food; approximate checkpoint positions are at 4.1 km (893 m), 7 km (600 m), 12.5 km (25 m) and 16 km (95 m). The event notes that standard hill running kit is required, including a windproof jacket, whistle, a fully charged mobile phone and suitable mountain running shoes. In severe mountain weather a predefined alternative route will be used. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
