Cadair X

Cadair X is a mountain half marathon covering 13.1 miles with a total ascent of 1165 m. The route is mainly off road with roughly 65% trail, 25% mountain path and 10% tarmac. The course reaches the summit of Cadair Idris at 893 m and has a summit cut off of 90 minutes after race start.

The route passes through Dol Idris woodland, up a steep gorge and beside the glacial lake Llyn Cau. After ascending Mynydd Moel the route reaches the summit and then descends over rocky, technical ground onto the established Pony Path. The final section runs toward Tyn Y Fach and Mary Jones Chapel then follows quieter Mary Jones walk tracks and woodland beside the glacial ribbon lake Tal Y Llyn before returning to Cadair Tearoom.

The section between 1 km and 3 km contains a sustained steep ascent and the most difficult underfoot terrain is shortly after the summit. The course will be marked with arrows and a GPX file is available for download.

Required kit includes a windproof jacket, a whistle, a fully charged mobile phone and suitable running shoes for mountain terrain. Checkpoints are at 4.1 km, 7 km, 12.5 km and 16 km with water and some checkpoints offering electrolyte and food. Parking and camping options are available at local sites in Dol Idris.
