Braids Hill Race

The Braids Hill Race is an annual cross-country event organized by the Edinburgh University Hare & Hounds. Located in the rolling hills of Southern Edinburgh, the course features an undulating landscape with views of the city skyline. The route consists of a loop that includes a steep downhill section on each lap.

The terrain primarily follows a gravel bridle path and grass. Due to the surface and potential for wet conditions, the use of fell or studded racing shoes is recommended, while spikes are not advised for this specific course. Participants are required to stay on designated paths and avoid crossing golf course greens or fairways during the event.

Available distances include:

  • 5 km consisting of one loop of the course.
  • 10 km consisting of two loops of the course.

Registration takes place at a designated central location, typically near the Edinburgh University King's Buildings, where toilet facilities are available. There are no parking or toilet facilities at the actual race start line, though limited on-street parking is available in the vicinity. The event is open to participants who are at least 18 years old on race day.

The event concludes with a prize-giving ceremony following the finish of the final runners. The race attracts a variety of participants, including university students, alumni, and local club runners. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
