Event overview

The Boscastle Scramble is a supported, self-navigated marathon covering 26 miles of the North Cornish Coast Path from Posh Rock on the Camel Estuary to Boscastle. The route passes coves and varied coast path terrain and finishes at the Wellington Hotel in Boscastle, where a menu and bar are available. The event is stage 3 of the Saints & Smugglers 100 Mile Challenge. All runners receive an event medal and there are awards for the top three male and top three female finishers. The minimum age is 18. The overall cut-off time for the event is 9 hours.

Logistics and requirements

Registration and the start are at St. Minver Lowlands Parish Council Chamber. Registration parking is located separately; a minibus shuttle will run from the car park to registration. An optional minibus transfer back to Rock from the finish is offered but runs only when full or nearly full. Three checkpoints are on course: CP1 New Polzeath at 4.5 miles, CP2 Port Isaac at 12.5 miles, and CP3 Trebarwith Strand at 19.5 miles. Checkpoints provide fluids, salt, sugar and savoury snacks; sandwiches are available at CP2. All runners are issued a GPS tracker and must check in at every checkpoint and the finish. A mandatory kit list applies and kit checks take place at race registration; required items include a whistle, compass (phone app acceptable), hi-vis item, survival bag (not foil blanket), headtorch, waterproof top, long trousers, nutrition, first aid items, at least 1 litre fluid, spare warm top in a waterproof bag, charged phone plus battery pack, emergency cash, and a collapsible cup.
