Event overview

The Boscastle Scramble is a self-navigated trail marathon organised by Purple Gecko Events on the North Cornwall coast. The route covers 26.2 miles from Rock to Boscastle and is listed as stage 3 of the Saints & Smugglers 100 Mile Challenge. All participants receive an event medal; awards are given to the top three male and top three female finishers. The event uses live GPS tracking and provides free race photography. The overall cut-off time for the event is 9 hours.

Route and logistics

The route follows the South West Coast Path and passes through Polzeath, Port Isaac and Tintagel. There are three manned checkpoints with fluids and snacks: CP1 New Polzeath - about 4.5 miles in
CP2 Port Isaac - about 12.5 miles in (sandwiches available)
CP3 Trebarwith Strand - about 19.5 miles in

Registration and the race start are at St. Minver Lowlands Parish Council Chamber. Participants must not park at the registration point; parking is provided at a separate location with a minibus shuttle to registration. An optional minibus transfer from the finish back to Rock is offered but runs only when it is full or nearly full.

Safety and requirements

All participants are issued a GPS tracker and must check in at every checkpoint and at the finish. Minimum age is 18. A mandatory kit list is enforced at registration; required items include a GPS tracker (issued at registration), whistle, compass (phone app acceptable), hi-vis or reflective item, survival bag (not foil), headtorch, waterproof top, long trousers, spare warm top in a waterproof bag, minimum 1 litre fluid, nutrition, basic first aid, charged mobile plus battery pack, paper with name and next-of-kin mobile number, £20 cash and a collapsible cup.
