Event overview

The Boscastle Scramble is a self-navigated trail marathon covering 26.2 Miles along the North Cornwall Coast Path. The route runs from the Rock/Camel Estuary area to the fishing village of Boscastle. The event includes live GPS tracking, a finisher medal for all participants and awards for the top three male and female finishers. Minimum age is 18. The event is listed as stage 3 of the Saints & Smugglers 100 Mile Challenge.

Course, checkpoints and support

The route passes through Polzeath, Port Isaac and Tintagel and has three manned checkpoints at the following distances:

  • New Polzeath - 4.5 miles in
  • Port Isaac - 12.5 miles in
  • Trebarwith Strand - 19.5 miles in

Checkpoints provide fluids, salt, sugar and savoury snacks; sandwiches are available at CP2. All runners receive a GPS tracker at registration and must check in at every checkpoint and the finish. Each checkpoint has its own cut-off time and the overall event cut-off is 9 hours. An optional minibus return transfer from the finish back to Rock is available; the service departs when it is full or nearly full.

Mandatory kit and other notes

There is a mandatory kit list and kit checks at race registration. Required items include a GPS tracker (issued at registration), whistle, compass (phone app acceptable), hi-vis item, survival bag (not foil blanket), headtorch, waterproof top, long trousers, spare warm top in a waterproof bag, minimum 1 litre fluid, first aid items, charged mobile plus battery pack, paper with next-of-kin number, £20 cash and a collapsible cup.
