Bluewater Canyon Trail Race, May 16, 2026

The event is a 5 mile trail run and walk at the Bluewater Canyon Trail Head near Bluewater, New Mexico. The route begins at the Bluewater Canyon parking lot and follows one mile of gravel road before ascending more than 500 feet to canyon overlooks with views of surrounding mountains and mesas and the creek below.

The course follows an established dirt road with some rocky sections, climbs to the canyon rim, and then returns to the parking lot. There are three aid stations along the route. A short half mile hike into the canyon reaches a creek with cold mountain water.

Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers and the top three children aged 14 and under. All finishers will receive medals and all participants receive custom socks and additional items in swag bags. Walkers receive medals as well.

Registration opens 1 December 2025. Registration fees are $25. No day of registration is available. All registration proceeds are donated to the Cibola Trail Alliance to support trail work in and around Cibola County. The event takes place on BLM land. Friendly four-legged companions are allowed but must follow state and local laws. A fruit and beverage buffet is provided at the finish area.
