Event overview

The Bluewater Canyon Trail Race takes place on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Bluewater, NM (87005). The event shows two entry categories: runners and walkers. Entry fee is $25. Registration closes in mid May 2026 (different deadlines apply for each category) and there is no day-of registration. All registration proceeds are donated to the Cibola Trail Alliance.

Course and logistics

The race is a 5-mile trail course that starts and finishes at the Bluewater Canyon Trail Head (county road 29). The route begins with about 1 mile on gravel road, then climbs over 500 feet to the top of Bluewater Canyon. The course follows established dirt roads with some rocky sections, makes a loop on the mountain, and returns to the parking lot. Three aid stations are placed along the route. The finish area includes a fruit and beverage buffet. Participants receive custom socks; children receive t-shirts and items in swag bags. Medals are awarded to the top three male and top three female finishers and to the top three kids aged 14 and under; walkers are not eligible for medals.
